The best way to practice the foreign language you are learning

This will not only reinforce what you are learning, but will also allow you to keep up as these classes can be a little demanding. Here are some interesting ways to practice your new language that you may not have thought of.

Immersion

Many people will tell you that visiting or living in another country is a great way to learn a foreign language. However, not all of us can afford to hop on the next international flight just to brush up on our grammar skills. Instead, try watching foreign television and movies or listening to foreign radio. This will allow you to observe and repeat a foreign language at your own pace, unlike when visiting a foreign country, which can be stressful if you are not already fluent in the language.

Reading

If you find that you are making many mistakes when speaking a foreign language, it may be time to stop and re-read your language books or course material. While speaking is a great way to practice the accent and reinforce what you already know, it won’t help if you are lacking knowledge are have incorrect knowledge of the language. Be careful to not learn mistakes as they can be hard to unlearn.

Phonetics

An important part of learning a foreign language is the accent. While you can definitely get by without a perfect accent in the language of your choosing, it will be even more impressive to combine your technical knowledge of the language with a flawless accent. Talk to your teacher about ways you can emphasize learning phonetics. If you are having trouble nailing the accent, there are a few computer programs that can give you a visual representation of what your accent looks like in comparison to the foreign language’s accent.
